The Editor tools
The tool rail down the side of the Editor is grouped under Selection, Create, and Adjust, with a small unlabelled cluster between them for moving around and rubbing out. Here is every tool, what it does, when it is off, and its keyboard shortcut.
The Selection group
Select (key V) moves, resizes, and rotates a whole layer. Double-click any text to edit it.
Letter (key A) picks a letter or a word so you can move, scale, or rotate it, and its tashkeel follow along.
Part (key P) picks one part, a stroke or a dot or a tashkeel mark, and edits it on its own.
Letter and Part switch off while the selected word is merged, because there is nothing finer than the word to pick then. Turn Clean outlines off and both come back.
Moving around and erasing
Pan (key H) drags the view so you can move around the canvas.
Zoom (key Z) zooms in on a click, and out on Alt-click.
Erase (key E) removes the letters or parts you drag over.
Adv. erase has its own tile that opens its options. It has five modes: Brush removes exactly the ink you paint over, Draw erases everything inside the freeform shape you draw, Points builds a straight-edged shape click by click which you then apply with Erase, and Rectangle/Ellipse drag out a marquee (hold Shift for a perfect square or circle, Alt to grow it from the point you pressed) that erases everything it covers, snapping to the artboard's edges as it nears them.
With them come Brush size, Fade, which cuts sharp at zero and turns soft and see-through as it rises, and the brush shape Circle or Square. Size and Fade apply to the Brush only; Rectangle and Ellipse always cut sharp. An Invert switch on Rectangle and Ellipse flips the erase to everything outside the shape, limited to the current selection if something is selected, or the whole canvas if not. Crop to page removes everything outside the artboard in one click. Curved text is not supported by the advanced eraser yet, so use the regular eraser there.
The Create group
Text (key T) adds text when you double-click empty canvas.
Type on path adds text that runs along a path when you double-click it. It comes with the Pro and Studio plans, and the pricing section on the home page lists what each plan includes.
Shapes inserts one of fourteen vector shapes: Rectangle, Square, Circle, Triangle, Star, Line, Hexagon, Arch, Medallion, Rub el Hizb, Cartouche, Crescent, Diamond, and Leaf.
Picture places an image from your device. How large a picture you may add depends on your plan, and an oversized one is met with an offer to shrink it for you.
Medallion turns one word, shape, or group into a circular or mirrored ornament. It comes with the Pro and Studio plans.
Fit shape fits one text layer inside a circle, oval, square, or rectangle. It needs both layers selected, the text and the shape.
The Adjust group
Kashida (key K) stretches the connection between two joined letters. It stays off until you select text with two connecting Arabic letters that can take an elongation point.
Join (key J) opens the Join and Separate controls for the picked letter; it does not change the join itself. Pick a letter first, or it stays off. These controls exist only for hand-built font packs that carry the required letter forms.
Both tools in this group are actions on the current selection rather than modes that stay switched on, which is why they look different from the rest of the rail.
The tool strip on a phone
On a phone a bottom bar replaces the side rail. Add sits at one end, Properties at the other, and a strip that scrolls sideways runs between them.
The front of the strip never changes: Select, then Letter, then Part, followed by Pan and Zoom, so the hand that moves the canvas is always under your thumb.
With nothing selected, the strip offers Erase and Adv. erase.
With something selected, it offers what edits it: Text Effect, Words, Kashida, Join, then Path, Fit shape, Clean outlines, Trace when the selection is a picture, Edit Letters, Outline, and then Beautify, Color, Erase, and Adv. erase.
After that come the create tools in both states: Text, Type on path, Shapes, Picture, and Medallion.
The strip ends with the page's own surfaces: Path when nothing is selected, then Guides and Background.
A button that is off on a phone stays pressable, and the press explains why it is off, since a phone has no hover to show the tooltip.
